Profile
He brings more than 30 years of uninterrupted professional experience: sixteen years in the private sector (1992–2007) and nearly eighteen years in the public oil and gas sector at Pemex (2007–June 1, 2025). At Pemex, he litigated and directly led—without reliance on external firms—fourteen international commercial arbitrations involving the upstream, midstream, and downstream business lines and consortia in the United States, Norway, Singapore, Brazil, Japan, Italy, Spain, England, Argentina, and Mexico. Working alongside Pemex engineers and experts, he successfully secured favorable outcomes in all counterclaims brought on behalf of Pemex, with awards exceeding USD 90 million, while also eliminating significant contingencies in arbitration and court proceedings. These matters included settlements and ADR mechanisms that either preserved business relationships or resolved them with certainty. As Of Counsel at Ibáñez Parkman, Juan Carlos will contribute by: (i) representing clients in commercial arbitration, (ii) applying his know-how to structure and execute complex transactions, and (iii) mitigating risks in infrastructure, construction, and project finance matters—whether in the negotiation, formalization, administration, or execution stage, and, if necessary, in dispute resolution.
Relevant disputes in commercial arbitrations
He litigated and led an international commercial arbitration CIRD – AAA as counsel for the Defendants, regarding two engineering procurement and construction contracts, linked to various Project Finance contracts (trusts, syndicated loans, financial leases, and non-possessory pledges), whose main claim involved a financial claim for approximately USD 200 million, and in which the Defendants he represented were acquitted and, at the same time, all counterclaims for USD 80 million were upheld in their favor. He also litigated the special commercial transactions trial, in which it was declared that: (i) the action for annulment was unfounded and (ii) the counterclaim for recognition and enforcement was well-founded. https://ciarglobal.com/juan-carlos-gonzalez-magallanes-trabajar-de-cerca-con-los-ingenieros-fue-esencial-en-el-arbitraje-pemex-loadmaster/
